How Water Aerobics Can Improve Your Cardiovascular Fitness

Water aerobics is one of the popular variations of the aerobics exercise. The swimming pool is now no longer only for swimmers. Today, water aerobics has changed this concept. This is because people now know that there are many benefits of water exercises.

Water aerobics exercise is helpful in improving the cardiovascular fitness. It also results in better endurance through the use of muscles under water which gain in strength. As a result of the support and resilience that water provides, there are fewer worries about getting injuries of the muscle, bone or joints. This is mainly because water aerobics are usually performed in chest-high water. It is also why both swimmers and non-swimmers are attracted to water aerobics.

Water aerobics usually uses many rhythmic body movements. There are also dance steps that are done in the water. You can choose from basic or advanced water aerobics programs. Beginning programs normally teaches the participant how to do the basic arm and leg movements in different combinations. As the program become more advanced, more intricate dance steps will be added to the water aerobics exercises with better callisthenic movements also being added. Usually, a water aerobics instructor will lead the workout regime. Water aerobics can be either be performed accompanied with music or without music.

Water Aerobic Equipment

When the level of water during water aerobics exercise is higher than chest level, certain floatation devices need to be used. Equipments such as kick boards, goggles and hand buoys are usually used in deep water. Water aerobic exercise will mostly last forty to fifty minutes including time being allocated for warming up and cooling down and the usual stretching routines.

As mentioned before, the main aim of water aerobics is to improve the cardiovascular condition of a person. Due to the resistance of the water, the exercises in water aerobics will help improve the person's strength. It will also improve flexibility, which will make the muscular endurance abilities become more balanced.

Water aerobics exercising can be performed by most people of all age groups and fitness levels. This is because only up to 15 percent of the body weight is not supported by water. This leads to less stress being placed on your joints during water aerobics exercising, if compared to land exercising.

Water aerobics is an ideal choice for healthy people and also for those who have a medical condition especially people suffering from arthritis, neck and back problems. It is also suitable for people suffering from strokes and obese people. The water aerobics exercises will usually cause a body to use up more energy. On an average, 450 to 700 calories will be burned for an hour of water aerobics exercise.
